Saturday & Sunday July 1st–2nd, 2017

South Port Sailing Club invites all competitors for an action-packed long weekend. Socializing, food and refreshments, and 3 races.

Friday

will be a welcoming for visiting boats and in-person registration starting 1700.

Saturday Afternoon

, will consist of one point to point race. The first warning signal will be at 1555.

Saturday evening

there will be a regatta party.

Those staying over

can enjoy the convivial atmosphere around the firepit Saturday evening.

After Sundays's Breakfast

will be two modified-olympic course races. The first warning signal will be at 0955.

Sunday after Racing

will be the awards ceremony.

Rules

The series will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

The Harold Asselstine Memorial Trophy document details how overall placing in a spinnaker division applies to the awarding of the trophy.

The Official Notice Board

The official notice board is in the clubhouse's enclosed porch. Notices will be mirrored on the web site within 24 hours of being posted.

Dates & Times

Saturday July 1st

will be a long-distance triangle no more than 13.5 nautical miles long. The first warning signal will be at 1555.

Sunday July 2nd

will consist of two back-to-back back modified-olympic course races. The first warning signal will be at 0955 and there will be 10 minutes between starts for for the first race only.

Classes to Race

Shark One-Design

Canadian Shark Class Association rules are in effect.

PHRF Handicapped

Races will be sailed according to Essex County PHRF Rules except that there are no minimum crew limits.

Time-on-Time Handicapping

Corrected times will be calculated using time-on-time handicapping

Corrected Time ∝ Elapsed Time ÷ (PHRF Handicap + 557s/mi.)

JOG

There will be a single JOG class.

PHRF

The PHRF class will be divided into PHRF A, B & C. The RC will post a notice of splits before the first race.

Class Flags

Coloured pennants matching the class flag are to be flown from the backstay for JOG and PHRF classes.

Certificates

In a JOG or PHRF class a boat must either:

  1. have been rated by the Essex County PHRF Association (ECPA) or
  2. have been issued a rating certificate by a North American PHRF station and have an equivalent rating on file at ECPA

Despite rule RRS 78.1, a current valid measurement or rating certificate is not required

Insurance

Boats must carry liability insurance.

Registration & Facilities

The entry fee is $40. Visiting boats may make use of the harbour, dry storage and facilities overnight Friday and Saturday for the cost of entry — the dry sail crane (attended and with proof of insurance) may be used to launch before the regatta begins and haul-out after the regatta is finished without additional charge. Use of the crane during the regatta or for other purposes should be arranged with the RC or the harbourmaster spsc.harbourmaster@gmail.com.

course octagon

The racing area shall be centred at Mark O, 1.4 miles due magnetic north from outside the Pike Creek channel on Lake St. Clair. Marks are 0.65 nautical miles from the centre mark and arrayed in a regular octagon with mark 8 pinned to magnetic north (using magnetic variation of 7.69ºW).

Marks are white can buoys --- even numbered can buoys have an orange top.

Participation Requirements

In any South Port Sailing Club event in 2017, boats must come out to at least half of the completed races in a series or regatta to be eligible for an award. Boats that fail to participate in any completed race will be removed from the count of registered boats for scoring purposes.
